Preface

When you open these pages, you have seen journey that were started seven years ago, in small house we called as Rumah Senang (House of Fun). Seven deadly years, as one might say. Or seven lucky numbers, as one might thoughts.  Lucky or not, we are still gather in that house and had survived with simple dream for everyone to feel free to be themselves and enjoy what life has given. Indeed, each of us, are naturally different and we should celebrate it.  And that’s why, on our 7th year, Q! FILM FESTIVAL celebrates the beauty of differences among us, the needs to have and accepting it within ourselves, without prejudices under the grand theme called “Naturally Different”.

Within 7 years of endlessly efforts, we’ve managed to provide audiences with so many movies from around the world which has LGBT IQ (Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Intersex-Questioning) and AIDS issues. Not just movies, we also did our best to give you sweets for your soul and spaces to express your thoughts through numbers of deep discussion in Q-Gossip section, pieces of beautiful art in Q! Photo Exhibition, meaningful writings in Q!Lit (Queer Literature) and moments to chat with the filmmaker itself. On the 7th of Q! FILM FESTIVAL, we’re bringing you 50 festival guests, local and international, to share their wonderful experiences in filmmaking. That’s why we are so happy to welcome everyone, to enjoy it for free (yes, still free).

To strengthen our struggle towards other awareness of love, understanding and compassion of human kinds, we are proudly present new movie section called Human Rights. Why? Because Q! FILM FESTIVAL understands that not only LGBT IQ or AIDS carer that needs the rights to live happily and treated fairly. But also every individual in this world, without judging through gender, races, religion, sexual orientation, etc. We need to stand up for our rights as human being. And this year we are collaborating with Kalyana Shira Foundations to presents 5 movies and 1 meaningful discussion to follow.

Like every other years, we also want to celebrate life through blasts of parties. Because what worth life is if we’re not able to enjoy it? And we guess everyone deserve a break after all the hassle and troubles like Q! FILM FESTIVAL has gone through (fundings, censorship, lack of human resource and negatives stigmas over the LGBTIQ nowadays). More over, we are truly believe that 7th year of Q! FILM FESTIVAL in fulfilling the journey with hope and dreams of a better world, and would colored your life, eventually.

Like what it did to us!
